did YOU KNOW? Harlem HEALTHY Living

What do you Know about a Stroke:
  1. Did You Know A stroke occurs when part of the brain doesn't get the blood it needs.

  2. Did You Know There are two types of stroke?

    1. Ischemic stroke (most common type) -- This type of stroke happens when blood is blocked from getting to the brain. This often happens because the artery is clogged with fatty deposits (atherosclerosis) or a blood clot.

    2. Hemorrhagic stroke -- This type of stroke happens when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, and blood bleeds into the brain. This type of stroke can be caused by an aneurysm -- a thin or weak spot in an artery that balloons out and can burst.

  3. Did You Know A person of any age can have a stroke.

  4. Did You Know  For every 10 years after the age of 55, the risk of stroke doubles, and two-thirds of all strokes occur in people over 65 years old.

  5. Did You Know  that up to 80% of strokes can be prevented.
